We are Batteries Not Included - a punk rock band based in West Bend, WI. We cover an array of punk rock music from 90s grunge to modern rock! While we enjoy playing covers, we also write our own music with inspirations ranging from Weezer to Marilyn Manson.

HOW WE GOT OUR START

Back in 2018, we had all entered West Bend Music Academy’s Summer Rock Band program - created for musicians of different instruments to come together to form multiple bands. It’s a great opportunity for musicians at an intermediate to advanced level to collaborate with other musicians who are interested in starting up a band.

When the band was originally formed, we started with Austin as a guitarist/singer and Zach on drums with two other members who are no longer with the band. Then, a few weeks after the start of the program, Jacob was invited in after the lead guitarist left the band. A few months after that (in 2019), the original bassist left and Sam was introduced, completing our ensemble.

With guidance from coaches Rich and Drew, Batteries Not Included started to become more polished. We started learning how to work together as a group and play off of each other’s strengths, as well as received individual attention to fine-tune our abilities. To this day, we still work with Rich to practice and continue to learn new material.

OUR FIRST SHOW

It was a hot summer day - perfect for live music at Summerfest 2019 on the Rebel Stage. We had played at Summerfest the year before, but 2019 was when all four of us played a show together as we are now. We hadn’t even decided on a band name yet! The first song we performed was Bound for the Floor by Local H. We were nervous as hell, but we all knew from then on that we had to keep going with it.

Since then, we have played at numerous venues throughout southeast Wisconsin. With the help of our families and friends, we now sell our own merch as we continue to grow.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BNI

One of our goals is to play a show (or shows) in another state. We are growing as a band and expanding our following, so reaching other states would be huge for us.

Another goal is to become a verified artist on Spotify by reaching a certain amount of plays of our original music. Songs including Heroin, Stuck Up, Handbags and Hand Grenades, and most recently Undone.

In the coming months, there are going to be some great new changes, as well as a much larger online presence to be able to reach out to fans and book more gigs. This is not just a “project” for us, nor is it just a phase. We are four talented musicians with a burning passion for live music.
